WV creates Woman Veterans program led by female veteran and former POW [Video]

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va (WDTV) – A Women’s Veterans Program was created for West Virginia today.

The program will help women veterans to help them file for and connect with benefits that they have earned, but may struggle to receive.

In a release, the Department of Veterans Assistance says that women veterans often experience a higher level of military sexual trauma than men do, and the program will help women with the unique challenges they face upon returning to civilian life.

The program will be led by Jessica Lynch, she is a US Army Veteran and former prisoner of war.

She was injured when her convoy was ambushed in Iraq in 2003, and spent 9 days in captivity before rescue by US Special Forces.

The program will be administered by the Department of Veterans Assistance.
