Xcel Energy has more than 500 crew members out checking some 600 miles of power lines so they can be reenergized after the windstorm that shut off power to more than 150,000 customers Saturday.

Xcel says expects to have 95% of customer power restored by Monday night. Xcel said some 55,000 customers had their power shut off by the company on Saturday “as a public safety measure.” Xcel couldn’t say how many powerlines were damaged by the wind as of press time.

As of 5:45 p.m. Sunday, Xcel Energy said crews restored power to about 63,000 customers.

More than 87,000 customers were still experiencing outages statewide, according to an Xcel release Sunday afternoon.

“In addition to the 55,000 customers whose electric service was turned off Saturday as a public safety measure, about 100,000 additional customers also experienced power outages caused by the high winds,” the release added.
