DENVER (KKTV) – A day after the news broke about the arrest of the Return to Nature Funeral Home owners on a federal warrant, the victims in the investigation are learning about why they were arrested.
It comes a day before the building in Penrose where nearly 200 bodies were found improperly stored is set to be torn down.
Jon and Carie Hallford were recently arrested by the FBI and taken back to the El Paso County Jail after they had both been released after posting bond.
In the indictment obtained by 11 News, it was revealed that their arrests had to do with alleged financial crimes.
Some of the victims whose loved ones were found in the Penrose building had not known the nature of the crimes the two are being accused of until speaking with 11 News on a video call Monday morning.
