When the folks at DuCard Vineyards decided to plan the venue’s first-ever jazz festival, they aimed for appealing flavors.
The inaugural Jazz & Jambalaya Festival, set for 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Etlan winery, will offer three bands on two stages in the springtime sunshine of Madison County, plus a vendor fair.
The vibe is “not sort of the smoky, mellow jazz-club thing,” owner Scott Elliff told The Daily Progress. “More of the New Orleans high-energy thing.”
Zuzu’s Hot 5 will perform at 1 p.m., followed by Ken & His Rhythm Changers at 3:30 p.m. The headlining band will be Cinémathèque, a nine-member Roanoke outfit that sets the pace with a three-member percussion section and three-horn front line.
