How to make sure your solar eclipse glasses are up to safety standards [Video]

(WFSB) – With the solar eclipse just a few days away, the I-Team wants to make sure you’re staying safe.

Fake and counterfeit eclipse glasses are being sold on the market.

Here’s some tips for making sure you’re buying legitimate ones.

First, make sure you buy from a reliable source or reputable vendor.

Stores like Target, Lowe’s, Staples and Walmart are selling legitimate glasses.

The American Astronomical Society also has a list of approved eclipse glasses manufacturers on their website. You can find them here: https://eclipse.aas.org/eye-safety/viewers-filters

Legitimate glasses should have the ISO logo and the numbers 12312-2 printed on them.

Glasses from 2017 are no longer good. Your glasses should be less than 3 years old.

If you bought glasses that say they are approved by NASA, NASA cannot approve eclipse glasses, therefore they are fakes.

You also should not be able to see anything through your glasses except the sun.
