Kansas Gov. vetoes legislation set to have an impact on healthcare for students [Video]

TOPEKA, Kan. (KCTV) – Kansas Governor Laura Kelly has vetoed legislation that would have banned gender-affirming care for transgender students in the Sunflower State.

Kansas Governor Laura Kelly says that on Friday, April 12, she vetoed the Substitute Bill for Senate Bill 233 as she believes it tramples parental rights. If signed, the bill would have banned access to gender-affirming medical care for transgender youth in the Sunflower State.

“This divisive legislation targets a small group of Kansans by placing government mandates on them and dictating to parents how to best raise and care for their children. I do not believe that is a conservative value, and it’s certainly not a Kansas value,” Gov. Kelly said.

According to the ACLU of Kansas, the bill could have broadly censored various state employees who support children, teachers, social workers and counselors.
