CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – A coalition of advocates for educators will be coming together Monday to push for better compensation for teachers.

Organized by the Lowcountry Teacher Advocates, the Educator Compensation Advocates will be hosting a press conference downtown highlighting what they are calling an “urgent need to prioritize continuous efforts to provide fair compensation for teachers and school staff within the Charleston County School District.”

They say leaders are currently weighing the budget for the 2024-2025 school year. Because of this, they believe now is the time to try to influence any potential outcome.

The Lowcountry Teacher Advocates say their primary focus for this conference is to stress the necessity of a “minimum $5,000 salary increase,” for all teachers across all levels of experience, as well as for school support staff.
