An affordable housing development under construction on Sioux Lane in the Billings Heights has faced public backlash this week, fueled by work beginning at the site and misinformation spread via morning radio.
A series of new man camp units from the Bakken Oil patch have been set up in a vacant lot on Sioux Lane just off Lake Elmo Drive in the Billings Heights. The units will be combined into affordable housing. The site will not be used as a refugee camp or a homeless shelter.
“The purposeful misinformation is causing fear and anger to come alive in our community that I feel has a criminal intent,” said Patti Webster, CEO of HomeFront — the organization behind the project — in a Tuesday email to City Council.
