The department says to move over and slow down any time you see the flashing lights of emergency vehicles or workers. If not, you could end up paying a hefty fine.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — TxDOT is once again calling on drivers to “move over or slow down” to keep roadside workers safe.
That’s the state’s law that requires drivers to use caution when passing construction zones and first responders stopped on the side of the road.
Drivers must move over a lane or slow down to 20 miles per hour below the posted speed limit to protect those in emergency vehicles, law enforcement, tow trucks, and utility service vehicles.
Those workers can be killed in crashes each year on the job because someone didn’t slow down or move over.
