National Prescription Drug Take Back Day happening this weekend [Video]

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – Saturday is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. The day is held twice a year to encourage people to rid their homes of unneeded medications.

The event aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible way for Alabamians to dispose of prescription drugs while also educating the public about the potential for abuse of medications.

Saturday, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., Alabamians will be able to dispose of their expired and unused prescriptions at collection sites across the state. Law enforcement officials will be at the sites to receive the prescriptions.

DEA and its partners will collect tablets, capsules, patches, and other solid forms of prescription drugs. Liquids (including intravenous solutions), syringes and other sharps, and illicit drugs will not be accepted. DEA will also continue to accept vaping devices and cartridges, provided lithium batteries are removed.
