Senator Kaine stops by Charlottesville on re-election campaign tour – [Video]

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) — Virginia Senator Tim Kaine visited downtown Charlottesville today, kicking off his campaign for another six years on Capitol Hill. Even with some disruptions from protestors, Kaine says he wants to continue to stand up for the Commonwealth. 

“We need people who will stand up or stand together rather than folks who will tear down or tear us apart,” Kaine said. 

Kaine’s title for his campaign tour, Standing Up for Virginia, comes in part from his opposition, which he refers to as the people who tear us down. 

“You see this energy out there where there are loud voices that will tear us down, roll progress back, divide us, treat others badly and even challenge our democracy,” Kaine said.

With his election creeping closer in November, he also recognizes the highly contested presidential election this year. He says people should take into account past accomplishments when casting their ballots.
