OXFORD, Miss. (WMC) – Sam Kendricks is working to grow his sport, the two time Olympian and world champion Pole Vaulter hosted his first tournament today at his home in Oxford as a way to connect with the community.
The Oxford native and Ole Miss Alum said pole vaulting is a very unique sport, it’s not exactly something that a lot of kids are interested in and that is something he is trying to change.
“Sometimes all you need is the perspective and a hand gesturing in the right direction, for you to plug your energy into that, so at the core I want to be a facilitator,” Kendricks said.
Kendricks has a perspective not many others have, he won a bronze medal at the Rio Olympics in 2016.
