FINAL SESSION DAYS: Lawmakers address Republican budget proposals, AI, and energy drinks [Video]

HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) – Lawmakers have spent the final days of the legislative session addressing Republican budget proposals, artificial intelligence, and energy drink warnings for youths.

While the state budget has been adopted, Republicans want to make changes.

With just 13 days to go before this year’s legislative session ends, state House Republicans proposed cuts to address shortfalls for next year.

What they are proposing may be worth looking at, but it came in the 11th hour, and some Democrats saw it as political posturing.

“We won’t want to leave it in the hands of the governor,” said Rep. Vinnie Candelora, Republican minority Leader. “We believe we have an obligation as the legislature to put forth a balanced budget.”

Republicans said next year’s budget is $30 million out of balance and they have a plan to fix it.

They proposed spending cuts, plus increases for special education.

They want to cut Medicaid for those undocumented, reduce hiring and staffing …
