Nearly 40,000 people cross the finish line for the Cooper River Bridge Run [Video]

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – Energy was at an all-time high as almost 40,000 people participated in the Cooper River Bridge Run Saturday morning.

The annual Cooper River Bridge Run got underway at the corner of Simmons Street and Coleman Boulevard in Mount Pleasant at 8 a.m. Runners and walkers ended the race with a festival at Marion Square in downtown Charleston.

Law enforcement officers from various departments were placed along the course, from the beginning to the end, for safety.

Volunteers from various organizations, including the American Red Cross, were attentive at the finish line in case any runners needed medical assistance and moral support.

Saturday’s race marked the event’s 47th year, and runners were ecstatic to make it across the finish line and receive their medal of completion
