Chiefs safety Justin Reid pranks fans with April Fools Day’ post [Video]

Kansas City Chiefs safety Justin Reid is retiring from football. Just kidding, he’s entering the third and final season of his contract with the team and seems to have every intention of suiting up for the back-to-back Super Bowl champs. You wouldn’t have known that if you didn’t give the date a quick glance before looking at his Twitter/X account on Monday. The defensive leader gave the Chiefs Kingdom a mighty big scare with a ‘retirement’ post on April Fools Day. “For the last four years or so, Ive been in this cycle on injury, pain, rehab Ive felt stuck in it. The only way I see out is to no longer play football. Its taken my joy of this game away,” Reid wrote in the post. “Thank you everyone would supported me on this incredible journey! I love you all!”Hinting that the post was, in fact, a joke, Reid then posted a GIF of Jim Carrey peeking over a small wall.Further cementing the joke, Reid also replied with an homage to a parody account that went viral for portraying former Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck as an old-timey general.”Dearest mother – I received your care package of fox knuckles and Fools Gold. Morale is high after 52 fortnights of victory,” Reid wrote. “Whilst my comrades and I train for the new war, I long to test my boot cannon in the battlefield. My resolve is stronger than ever.Andr I mean J. Reid.”The post caught a few unwitting Chiefs fans off guard, with many people replying to say that Reid had briefly tricked them. Most Chiefs fans appear to have quickly realized the post was a farce. Reid’s ‘retirement’ announcement has tallied up nearly 2,500 likes and more than 450,000 views in just a few hours. The Chiefs safety can now consider himself a triple threat as a defender, trickster, and kicker. The safety is also dedicated to the Kansas City community, recently donating over $15,000 to an area school district’s robotics team through his charitable foundation J-Reid Indeed.
