Tri-State lineworkers recognized on National Lineworker Appreciation Day [Video]

CINCINNATI (WXIX) – Dozens of Duke Energy lineworkers were recognized Thursday for National Lineworker Appreciation Day.

The ceremony was held on the Purple People Bridge with leaders from around the region showing their appreciation.

“Thank you for all that you do, all that you’re going to do, and we appreciate you keeping Hamilton County safe,” Hamilton County Commission President Alicia Reece said.

Safety was the underlying theme of the celebration since often lineworkers face daunting and dangerous situations.

“They’re in snow, ice, rain, all kinds of conditions,” explained Duke Energy Ohio and Kentucky Community Relations VP Rhonda Whitaker. “They’re running towards the storm while we’re running away from the storm. And they’re the ones out there in these inclement conditions making sure that our power gets on safely and as quickly as possible.”

Duke Energy has 350 full-time lineworkers across the Tri-State with another 400 associated contractors.
